Artist Statement
My artwork looks like a tiger with palm trees as well as with leaves in the background. I also added in a sun because I wanted it to represent a bright, joyful day. The subject matter is zentangle and the elements and principles I used would include different lines, shading, shapes, texture, pattern, etc. I started off by drawing the outline of my tiger and the palm trees and leaves as well. Then I drew over the outlines with a permanent marker and decided to start drawing my designs. I picked out designs from online that I thought were beautiful because I wanted to show a soft side of the tiger, since they’re seen as aggressive. After I added other details that I felt belonged there as I went on. I choose a tiger because to me they show strength and power, which is something I wanted to portray in my art. This just shows that it represents something personal because although I may seem serious, I have a soft side as well. For my artwork I tried to show peacefulness but I also wanted to add in the emotion of power. My goals as an artist were to be able to show the creativity that I have as well as be able to bring out emotions, which is something I believe I’ve done. By creating this artwork, I learned how to actually use and show the different elements and principles. The final piece came out better than I imagined because I didn’t actually think I could draw. My tiger looks, to me at least, exactly how it’s supposed to and I loved the designs I chose. This piece will influence my future pieces in that I would know how to manage my time better and be able to use the different elements and principles as well as express my thoughts and feelings.
